Q. How do I join the PCRA?
A. Simply download the membership form from the downloads page. complete it and mail it to the address listed at the bottom of the form. You can pay by cheque, money order or direct deposit. If paying by direct deposit, be sure to put your name in the reference field, e.g. "John Smith PCRA membership". Please be sure to include your email address, this is necessary for access to the members only areas of the web site and receiving important information the PCRA sends out such as newsletters & race entry forms. Even if you lodge your application form electronically or by fax, please make sure you send us a stamped self-addressed envelope with your application so we can send your membership card to you.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. $55.00 for members (new members and renewals), $15.00 Associate Members. ALL MEMBERSHIPS EXPIRE ON THE 31ST OF DECEMBER EACH YEAR.
Q. Who can I contact at the PCRA?
A. If you have any type of enquiry, please use the contact form on the website & someone will get in touch with you.
Q. Do I need to be a club member to race?
A. You don’t necessarily need to be member of the PCRA to race with us, but to compete in the club championship for your class, you need to be full racing member of the PCRA. Predominately our races are open to PCRA and ALMCC members only, some races are open to invited clubs.
Q. What type of helmet do I need?
A. Helmets come in a range of prices and styles. Helmets that comply with the Australian standard can be as cheap as $150 and are very adequate for the job. It all depends on your budget, but whatever you get make sure that it is comfortable and fits well. Remember after every crash you should have your helmet checked & replaced if necessary. All helmets are checked for damage before racing begins.
Q. What type of leathers do I require?
A. Leathers can be ‘hand made’ or off the rack, depending on your budget and can be either one or two piece. Second hand leathers are accepted as long as they don’t have any holes or rips in them. Many riders use two piece leathers, which must zip together at the waist. All leathers must have additional padding/protection at the elbows, shoulders, knees and torso.
Q. Are road boots okay to race in?
A. Most motorcycle road boots are okay to use as long as they are in good condition & constructed of leather or similar durable material with no rips/tears or holes in them. Boots must also have some form of ankle and calf protection.
Q. What type of gloves can I use?
A. Gloves need to be of leather or material of similar durability. Look for a set with additional knuckle protection such as hard plastic or carbon fibre. Gloves that comply can cost as little as $50 or hundreds of dollars.
Q. What is a back protector?
A. A back protector is an overlapping ‘armadillo’ type shield for your spine & is a must to have if you wish to race.
Q. How do I get a license to race?
A. Firstly, you need to become a member of a Motorcycling Australia affiliated club, such as the PCRA. Then you need to complete a licensed theory test which is downloadable from this website. Information needed to pass this can also be found on this website in the New Members section. Once you have done this, mail the theory test to the Membership Secretary, who will mark it and return the test to you. This along with proof of your club membership, appropriate fee, two passport photo’s & your MNSW license application should be posted to MNSW for processing. A new license will be posted to you.
1 Day Licenses
PCRA will accept 1 Day licenses, however, these cannot be issued on the day of the race meeting due to the amount of administration required. To apply for your 1 Event license, download the relevant document from the download page here on the PCRA website and download the Theory Test from MNSW website (http://www.motorcycling.com.au ). Go to "Competitor Information" and find "Competitor Forms" or here. Theory test is 2nd on list after the full license application form. Then send the application and theory test to Jan Blizzard at the same address as your race entry with payment of $50.00 3 weeks BEFORE the race meeting.
Q. Where do I get my Race Entry & Supplementary Regulations?
A. Currently Race entries & Supp Regs have been posted out to PCRA members via the Race Secretary. They need to be completed & returned before the cut off date or late entry fees apply. With the new online membership section of the website, the PCRA will be able to email these directly to members on the database. Those who still prefer the old system will still have them sent out via Aus Post.
Q. What do I need to start racing?
A.
- You need to make sure that you have all your official documentation in order such as, club membership, race licence, race entry & historic log book if required.
- Safety gear such as, back protector, gloves, racing or two piece leathers that zip together at the waist, racing/road boots and a helmet that meets the required Australian standard. All this gear will be checked at riders sign on prior to racing beginning.
- A bike, try and select something that is within your riding ability, is relatively cheap & reliable.
Q. What do I need to do to get my bike ready?
A. For a full and detailed list of things that need to be done to a bike prior to racing check the MA website and look at the Manual of Motorcycle Sport sections 15 & 16. Or send an online enquiry through the website.
Q. What do I do at my first race meeting?

- Get unpacked and look for sign on & scrutineering locations
- Sign on early, get your riding gear checked & collect a programme
- Get your bike to scrutineering early to avoid a rush
